Unseeded Orkin takes Southern Bullfrog Boys 16’s title in Jackson, MS

It was an exciting weekend for many of our players as they perform very well under difficult conditions.
One of our young players unseeded
Elliot Orkin had a magical run as he took the title in the boys 16 and under division with an exciting win over
Thomas Marone of Louisiana 6-4,4-6, 13-11. On the way to the title Orkin also defeated Beck Pennington,
Andrew Eli, Charles Depaolo, Zack Kennedy and Kyle Childree in which he got some revenge on several of these players.
In the boys 18 & under
Vincent Delise and
Garrett Gordon both had a great tournament as they made all the way to
the top 8 before the rain cancelled their semis of the back draw matches.
Delise is back on track with his tennis as he defeated Austin Akers, Stefan Woog, Mario Martinez and Gordon had solid wins over Stefan Woog and Jack Williams.
In the boys 14 & under division
Jake Darrah and
Chase Smith both made it to the quarterfinals of the main draw.
Darrah had 3 solid wins before falling short against top seed Taylor Cramer 6-2, 7-6 and Smith defeated 5 seed Marshall Parker before falling to #4 seed Nikita Kardivar.
Other players that won a few rounds in the main or back draw were,
Hunter Reese,
Garrison La Duca,
Nicole La Duca and
Katerina Guarino. We are very proud of all the rookies for the effort especially
the first day which they were playing on 20 degree weather with snow flurries.

SDTA shines at first ever Academy Junior Challenge held at Winward Racket Club

It was a great effort from all our juniors in both the 14 & under division and the 18 & under division
at the Winward racket Club in Alpharetta Georgia. After a very long and cold day, it was SDTA who came out on top in the 18 & under divison.
Winward came out on top in the 14 & under division while we finished third. Overall,
I believe SDTA ended up on top or tied with Winward with the highest amount of points when combining both 18’s and 14’s matches while Tennis Academy of
the South finished 3rd and Universal Tennis Academy last. The competition was based on having head to head competition against every other academy were teams
played one singles, one doubles and a mixed doubles in order to determined the results.
In our 14 & under first morning match we fare well but lost 3-2 to Tennis Academy of the South,
then we followed up with a 3-2 win over Universal Tennis Academy and finally a 3-2 loss to Winward Academy.
The 14 and under kids played hard and gave it a great effort and after the morning competition we were in third place.
In the afternoon 18 & under competition, SDTA came back storming with 5-0 win over Universal Tennis Academy and a 4-1 win over
Tennis Academy of the South. At the end of competition we ended up with 16 points which was either first place or tied for first.
We would like to thank everyone that participated in this event including our coaches for giving up their day to help out our rookies.
It was a wonderful experience for both our young rookies and our older ones as we all came together as a team and showed great pride and sportsmanship on court.
We the coaches will be working very hard to keep helping and developing our players so we can continue the same success that we have had over the last 14 years.
